Considering Space in Your Kitchen Remodel

It is not uncommon for homeowners to become bored with their kitchen. They wish to “spice things up” every once in a while. However, kitchen remodeling projects can prove to be a huge undertaking, even for seasoned homeowners. This is because many elements must be taken into account before making the final selections. For any remodeling project to be successful, space planning must take precedence.

Tips on space planning for a kitchen remodel

Before starting your project, take a look at the current layout of your kitchen and establish whether your cabinet and appliance configurations need to be altered to promote better space efficiency. Altering your plumbing and electrical systems can be costly will be worth it in the end.

One of the most critical elements of space planning a kitchen is your ‘work triangle’, which is the distance between the stove, refrigerator, and sink. All of these stations should be close to one another, but not in a “cramped” manner.

Another aspect of space planning in a kitchen remodel project is the counter space next to your appliances. It is essential that you have sufficient landing space right next to the microwave and stove for placing dishes and food. This will make the kitchen more spacious and practical. In most cases, the minimum space required is 15 inches, but if more space is available, you can go a little bit beyond that. The recommended landing space for the sink area should be a minimum of 24 inches on one side and 18 inches on the opposite side.
